There has been a recent string of incidents across Arizona in which bears have intruded into residential area, including a female repeat-offender with two cubs. Bears most often fall into this pattern of behavior when well-intentioned but poorly-informed residents leave food out for them. This can cause bears to become bolder about coming close to human settlements, and can also cause them to become aggressive towards humans, pets and property if they expect to find food but don’t. Humans should never feed or approach bears.
- Officers in Arizona captured and killed a bear after it tried to enter a home.
- When people feed bears, they become dependent on humans for food and water.
- People who feed bears are risking their own safety as well as those of other humans and their pets.
“Game and Fish said it has seen an increase in bear activity statewide because of drought conditions.”
